Even though it is not immediately clear, but the genomes might have mutated back in September. The British High Secretary confirmed the news. He, Matt Hancock, said,

“This new variant is highly concerning, because it is yet more transmissible, and it appears to have mutated further than the new variant has been discovered in the UK.”

South Africa confirmed the genetic mutation last week. Soon after the countries started closing the borders with the country.

However, this is even worse news for the UK. The country is already dealing with a COVID19 strain which has impacted it badly. The European neighbors and others have already closed the borders with the UK.

However, it can be safely assumed that the new strain has already been transported to other countries and others are not aware of it as of now. The borders are closed already, the second strain may be more localized.

The UK is facing a very hard time and the coronavirus cases have increased drastically. It is adding almost 40,000 cases every day now and more than 500 people are losing their lives to the virus originated from Wuhan, China.

Amidst the global pandemic, the UK is also dealing with Brexit which has now been officially agreed upon. The UK officially leaves the European Union on 31st December.
