Suresh Raina is set to miss the IPL 2020 with franchise Chennai Super Kings. The recently retired batsman will miss the tournament for personal reasons, informed CSK. Raina announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15th along with MS Dhoni.
There is no clarity as of now on his exit from the tournament. Suresh Raina was gearing up for the IPL2020.
This came as another jolt to Chennai Super Kings. The franchise has already delayed the practice session in UAE after 11 staff members tested positive for COVID19. The list includes one Indian fast bowler and other staff members. The members tested positive had to undergo another 14 days of quarantine as per the standard security protocol of IPL.
CSK CEO Kashi Vishwanath released a statement saying-
“Suresh Raina has returned to India for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of the IPL season. Chennai Super Kings offers complete support to Suresh and his family during this time.”
Dream11 IPL 13 is scheduled to be held in the UAE. The tournament was originally planned in the April-May calendar. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the marquee tournament was postponed.
After the World Cup T20 was canceled by the ICC in Australia, BCCI was scheduled for IPL.
IPL 2020 has been eventful so far. The Title Sponsor Vivo pulled out for a year after the tension between China and India. Dream11 managed to get the sponsorship rights for 2020.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, and Kings XI Punjab have started practice sessions. Delhi Capitals to start the practice session soon too.
Suresh Raina has now confirmed that he has taken this decision to keep his children safe. He said nothing is more important than children. CSK respected his decision. He has come back from UAE and now at home quarantine.
