Sacramento Deputy Sheriff, Shauna Bishop, 44, has pleaded guilty for sexual relations with a 16-year-old teen. She did that when she was working as deputy to Sheriff of Sacramento California State.
The court sentenced her for one year in custody and five years of formal probation. Shauna Bishop is also required to be registered as a sex offender once released. She needs to serve 180 days on work projects when she is released. Also, she cannot have any contact with the teen or his family, the court-ordered. The court also ordered no alcohol use and pornography for the five years of probation period. Bishop cannot also meet any children under 18 years without the court’s approval.
The court ordered that any violation of the terms would result in three years in prison, CBS Sacramento reported.
Bishop turned herself in back in June 2019. The parent of the boy filed a report with the police accusing her of illegal sexual relationships in Folsom, California. The father of the teen also worked in the department. He raised concerns with his ex-wife and claimed that Bishop was grooming the teen.
The investigation started in May. The probe conducted focused on the nature of the relationship between Bishop and the teen boy. Later, the police issued a warrant against the Sacramento Deputy Sheriff.
During the investigation, she was on paid leave for a fair investigation. In August 2019, the five-year veteran was arrested. She resigned from her position after her arrest, NY Post reported.
However, it has been clarified that she did not meet the boy through work or had a sexual relationship on duty. The crime was not involved with law enforcement duties, the authorities clarified.
