Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced a deal with Netflix for an undisclosed amount. The royal couple who is now staying in Santa Barabara mansion has embarked on their journey in Hollywood with Netflix.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have founded not yet named production house. They have signed a multi-year deal with Netflix, confirmed the New York Times. Netflix is to pay them for documentaries, document-series, feature films, scripted shows, and children programs.
The Royal couple commented, ‘Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope. As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us.’
The programs developed by the royal couple will be exclusive to Netflix’s 193mn subscribers. They may appear in documentaries. However, former actress Meghan Markle has previously indicated that she has no intention of facing the camera again.
Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, said that they are proud to be partnered with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and they are excited to tell their stories to the millions of subscribers.
Several media reports predicted that both are trying to set their foothold in Hollywood. In March, the couple officially stepped back from their royal duties as Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Meghan Markle recently worked as a narrator in a Disney Plus docuseries on Elephants. It was reported that her fee went to Elephants without Border charity. Prince Harry also followed her and appeared in a Netflix documentary about Paralympic games, named Rising Phoenix.
Prince Harry also announced last year to partner with Oprah Winfrey on an Apple TV+ docuseries on mental health.
The interest of Netflix working with them was not secret. Soon after they stepped back from Royal duties, Netflix cleared their intention. However, no report can confirm whether the royal couple had any discussion with other streaming partners before zeroing Netflix.
