Nigeria Manslaughter has left everyone shocked in the world. UN Humanitarian Coordinator Edward Kallon said in a statement that,
“At least 110 civilians were ruthlessly killed and many others were wounded in this attack.”
In the suspected Islamist militants’ attack, dozens of farmers were killed including 30 beheaded. This is one of the most violent attacks in recent years against civilians. The reports also suggest that several women have been kidnapped.
The attack was carried out in the Borno State of Garin Kwashebe village in North-East Nigeria. Even though no terrorist group has claimed responsibility, but in the past, Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province have carried out similar attacks.
So far, both the groups have combinedly killed at least 30,000 people in the area. The farmers were reportedly killed for refusing to pay tax extortion. The Boko Haram regularly take tax extortion money from the farmers in the area.
One of the Boko Haram members came to collect money. However, the farmers overpowered him and handed him over to the security officials. However, shortly after that the insurgents came and killed the farmers. They even burnt the rice fields.
So far, 44 corps were found. However, it is believed more than 60 farmers and fishermen were cold-bloodedly murdered.
As per ABC,
“I condemn the killing of our hardworking farmers by terrorists in Borno state. The entire country is hurt by these senseless killings. My thoughts are with their families in this time of grief,” Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said.
Reports have also confirmed that several women from the villages are missing and supposedly kidnapped by the Boko Haram.
