Je Suis Samuel – Paris come together after Teacher beheaded

Je Suis Samuel banners were all over at the Place de la Republique in Paris. People of all ages gathered to condemn the attack on the teacher, Samuel Paty. There were teachers, students, young, old, people from different religions at the place.

Everyone was talking about discarding the Islamic extremism and freedom of expression. Teachers were shouting that they are not afraid to go back and speak. Many Muslims came to the protest and condemn the attack too. They said the religion is between him and God and he denounces the act of terrorism, reported France 24.

Some of the people blamed the government for all this. They said the government has been timid on this issue. This is not the first time that Paris has woken up to such extremism.

During January 2015, when the Charlie Hebdo office was attacked, a similar protest was seen. Je Suis Charlie banners were seen at the same place. People from different places, religion came together. But the question is what has changed?

The French government since then has not able to contain radicalized thought. The radicalized people are assimilated into the population and often they come out and carry out such brutal crime.

What is the need of the hour?

There are two things that need to be ensured before another Je Suis Samuel incident crops up.

The first is to identify and free society from radical extremists. The second is of course to ensure that the innocent Muslims are not targeted for this incident.

The battle is against the radicals to protect the freedom of expression and value of democracy. Hence, hate must not be allowed to prevail in the society as well. The entire society must come together to fight off the evil.
