India v WI in Florida is an interesting chapter for World Cricket and BCCI. BCCI President Anurag Thakur announced that Indian team will play 2 T20s against World Champions West Indies in Florida, USA. This is a Master Stroke from BCCI from many aspects.
India v WI in Florida will be played on August 27 and August 28 at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill. This is the only ICC approved international stadium in the United States of America. This stadium is already hosting matches of Caribbean Premier League. However, there were some issues with the stadium as well. The stadium was only available for the August 27 and August 28 for cricket as Soccer was set to return from August 29. BCCI has agreed on the dates and gave go ahead to the tour. A special legal team has also been formed to look after the Visa of the players.
India v WI in Florida – Why the Series is Important
BCCI has played the master stroke. USA is a huge market that hardly has any cricket following. However, there are many people from South Asian countries who are die hard fans of cricket. There are many people from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and they will turn up for the cricket. USA is a great market and BCCI is eyeing the same. The match is reportedly been scheduled at around 10 AM in the morning considering the weekend and Indian timing. This will give a spike in viewership as well.
This will not only promote cricket in United States but will also give huge importance to the rising popularity of the T20 Cricket and take the game little closer to become the Global Sport.
