He was more than football; he was the icon and legend of the sports. No matter where an Argentinian would have gone, they could spark a conversation just with Maradona. His goals in the quarterfinals against England in the 1986 World Cup is more than basic skills. His goals were emotions when fans cried. No football did not give any such star after that. Stars were born after that, but none has been ever loved like him.

Diego Armando Maradona was a tainted hero. He took his team to World Cup Trophy in 1986. He then took his team to finals again with a mediocre Argentina team in Rome in 1990. But alcohol, drugs, and overeating got better of him by 1991. He was suspended from football for 15 months for drugs. In the 1994 world cup, he was again suspended for doping and drug use. This was the end of the hero, some thought.

Well, he made mistakes, he made terrible mistakes. But he was always forgiven. Love for him was so much that his catastrophic mistakes were ignored. He was the champion and he remained till the end.

In 2000, he was announced as the FIFA Footballer of the Century. He deserved it. Pele, the Brazilian wizard came second, but love for Maradona was overwhelming. There were churches made in his name, Maradoniana Church, and people worshipped him.

He came from a humble family in the slums of Argentina. He then was referred to as El Dios or the God in Argentina.

He retired from professional football in 1997 and continued to struggle. He almost died of a heart attack in 2000. But then he changed. He went to rehab and made himself a better man.

In 2008, he made a comeback to professional football as a coach. He coached the Argentina National team. He then went on to coach many professional clubs.

The wizard tackled all the players on the field, he tackled death many times in the past. But this time, he could not. He could not survive the heart attack Reuters reported.

He passed away in the suburbs of the Argentinian capital, Buenos Aires.
