A major British Journal Addict Biology has published a breakthrough report on the Alcohol Independence. The report suggests that a person can be treated for Alcohol Dependence with the medicine that is used to treat Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity. The Swedish researchers have come upon the decision after the major experimentation on the mice. The researchers concluded that the GLP-1 medicines can be very well used and help in reduction of Alcohol Consumption up to 40%. It may also lead to a relapse of alcohol drinking. However, the reports have been published on the basis of experiments done on the rats.
What is Alcohol Dependence?
Alcohol is one of the most consumed drinks in the world. However, there are lots of things associated with Alcohol other than Euphoria. The Euphoria that is caused by Alcohol generally happened due to the Dopamine hormone released from the brain. Alcohol makes it a habit for the body that gets used to with the secretion of the hormone and the euphoria. However, this causes mortality and serious health complications.
How Alcohol Dependence can be treated?
The new study has revealed that the medicine for Type 2 Diabetes has the power to reduce the secretion of the Dopamine by a considerable amount. During the experiments with the rats, the researchers gave high amount of alcohol to the rats that released high dopamine amount. However, with the use of GLP-1 medicine, the release of the hormone was reduced and so was the consumption of alcohol. The medicine has also the capability to stop the relapsing of the alcohol consumption.
So, people who are fighting with the problems like Diabetes, Obesity and Alcohol dependence may very well get a single medicine to treat all of the problems in near future. However, if scientists are to be reported then many in the world are actually getting treated for Alcohol Dependence without even knowing.
