As California fights the wildfires, the firefighters are suffering other kinds of battle too. In a bizarre case, the wallet of a firefighter was stolen from his work vehicle as he was dozing off the fire. His bank account was drained while he was battling the flame.
Chief Deputy with the Santa Cruz was disgusted while speaking about the robbery during a press conference. He said that it is disgusting to believe that someone would have the nerve to break into the vehicle and steal when he was putting his life at stake for the community. This comes after a case of looting during the Santa Cruz fire.
The officials informed that the investigation is underway.
Thousands of firefighters are responding to the hundreds of wildfires raging across California which has engulfed more than 1 million acres till now.
The Sheriff department announced that five people were arrested when they targeted the homes of the residents evacuated due to the wildfire.
The officials said that they have arrested five people named, Jose Gandarilla, Susana Luna, Crystal Araujo, Sara Loretz, and Crystle Parstch-Lucchesi for various charges including grand theft, looting, conspiracy to commit a crime and robbery. The accused were apprehended by the police as they were trying to flee the scene. One car stopped but the other was fleeing only to end up in a ditch. The police got a report from the neighborhood about the burglary.
This has shaken even the department to realize that some people are trying to traumatize the residents who are already going through a lot. The evacuated areas are being patrolled by the police now.
