Beef Politics and communal tensions are slowly gripping the entire India. After Dadri, it is Jammu and Kashmir. The Kashmir Valley has now been under tight security. The separatists have called for total shutdown over the killing of Zahid Ahmed’s death.
How Zahid Ahmed died
Zahid Ahmed, a truck driver by profession was attacked by mob for beef rumors in Udhampur District of Jammu on October 9. Zahid was attacked by Petrol Bomb for cow slaughter and suffered 60% burn injury. He was admitted to hospital but later moved to Delhi for treatment. He however died of his injury yesterday. Officials have however claimed that tests conducted show that the cow died of food poisoning rather than slaughter. Agitation has stated and the protesters believe that cow were first poisoned and then communal tensions were created.
Protest in the Valley
Protests have gripped Srinagar and the Anantanag District for the death of Zahid. Curfew has been imposed on many parts of Srinagar.
Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed has condemned the attack and said that he has no word to describe the deadly attack. Deputy Chief Minister Normal Singh has also condemned the attack. Former Chief Minister and Opposition Leader Omar Abdullah has visited the family of Zahid and blamed the BJP for dirty Politics. He has also condemned the 10000 INR compensation and avoiding the real issue.
The beef issue is not new in Jammu and Kashmir. Few days back the independent MLA Engineer Rashid was thrashed by BJP members for hosting Beef Party. The BJP ally People Democratic Party was red faced but failed to act against the same.
The Political Pundits expect high communal tensions for the beef in coming days if necessary steps are not taken. India is a democratic nation and the growing religious intolerance and disruption of harmony is a worrying signal.
