In Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, a bullet-ridden dead body of an army officer was found. As per the police sources, the militants kidnapped the army officer and killed him last night when he went out to attend a family function. The army officer was kidnapped from the Kulgram area on Tuesday night.
Army officials said that the dead body belongs to late Lieutenant Umar Fayyaz who joined army a few months back. In the latest trend, the militants are openly targeting Army personnel and using the locals as a human shield while fleeing. The Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir has become the hub of militants infiltrating from Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Since the video of several militants roaming freely in Shopian emerged, Army has launched a massive operation to against the terrorists in the area.
However, the locals were hindering the army operations. Locals are flocking together in crowds and pelting stones at the security forces and helping the militants to escape. The casualty rate of security forces has gone up in Kashmir as the government is still reluctant to do anything.
The PDP and BJP government in Jammu & Kashmir have failed to address the core issues and the valley is on fire since last year. Along with Army personnel and several civilians lost their lives. Militant activities have increased in the valley but the government is acting as a mute spectator.
It is high time that central government takes some stringent actions against the separatist and militants. It is the only way forward to restore peace in the valley.
